Mt. Tabor and Nain

Hello All,

One of the field trips in Galilee was to Mount Tabor (and then to Megiddo, Tel, Jezreel, and a swimming hole, but I only went to the Mt. Tabor portion of the field trip because the rest was inaccessible)

Mt. Tabor (the traditional Mount of Transfiguration)

This is the church at the top of Mount Tabor. It is the traditional place for the Mount of Transfiguration (although some now believe Mt. Hermon to be a more likely spot). Either way, it is a really neat church that commemorates the events in Matthew 17 when Moses and Elijah appeared with Christ to Peter, James, and John, and gave them the keys of the kingdom. Jesus was transfigured before the three (transfiguration is a temporary change so a mortal can withstand the glory of God).

Inside the church, we were lucky enough to see a service going on. The church is is a Roman Catholic church of the Franciscan order and was built in 1924. The main part of the chapel is dedicated to the transfiguration of Christ, and it has two side chapels dedicated to Moses and Elijah.

Tye and I are cripples, so we ended up driving back to Ein Gev with Dr. and Sister Jackson because the other part of the field trip was not accessible for us.

I snapped this shot on our drive down the mountain--it seems more likely to me that the Mount of Transfiguration looked more like this than the well manicured gardens of a church ;-)

Also on our drive down the mountain, Dr. Jackson pointed out the city of Nazareth. So here is a shot of Nazareth :-)

So there are definitely some benefits to being a cripple. One of them was being able to drive through Nain! We were going to go as part of the field trip, however, this church is under construction, so our class did not go. But, since I was driving with Dr. and Sister J, we stopped at Nain to take a picture and read the biblical account of the miracle that happened here.

If you are interested, read the biblical account in Luke 7 of the Savior raising the widow's son from the dead. It happened in Nain.

Also in Nain is a Kosher McDonalds. We stopped there too ;-)

The Jacksons, Tye, and Myself enjoying our lunch (which was WAY better than the nast sack lunches provided at Ein Gev--overall the food has been wonderful here, but those sack lunches are really quite disgusting.)

We had a great day!

-E
