Hello All!!!
Yesterday (Wednesday, January 16th) was my second day going out into the city of Jerusalem (without Professors) to just explore. A group of us went, and we had a blast :-)
Our first stop was at Omar's. He makes awesome olive wood carvings and nativities, and a lot of the BYU students buy from him. He has pictures with apostles and prophets buying his nativities too--it's awesome :-) He also told us that he has two children who have gone to BYU, so that is pretty cool :-)
He has various sizes of nativities and tons of different styles.
This statue is AWESOME. It is just like the painting that a lot of LDS people are familiar with... And you can see how the olive wood is all one piece that has been carved out.
Omar gave us girls free olive wood rings :-)
Omar also gives this keychain to every BYU student who comes to his shop (whether or not they buy anything). It says "Charity Never Faileth" with the JC symbol and "Brigham Young University...The Jerusalem Center" on it. On the other side it says "Omar Souvenirs" with a picture of a tree.
Next we went to get Shwarma in the Old City. It was DELICIOUS!!!
So SO good :-)
Jennie accidentally bought a water bottle...oops...haha ;-)
We also went to a jewelry store...I love this hand jewelry :-)
Ibriham made us rings--his shop had some really cool jewelry in it (we only paid 10 shekels for our rings, and we talked to him for half an hour or so...)
my ring :-)
All of our hands with our new rings :-)
Ashley tried on a ring that was worth $38 thousand....
Check out that HUGE ring!
We had a great day in the city! I look forward to many more fun days in Jerusalem!!!
love you!
